As the global push for clean energy accelerates, the demand for electricity continues to soar—driven by rapid technological advancements, the electrification of industries and transport, and the rise of AI systems that rely on constant, reliable power.
Countries like the UK, Germany, USA, and China are leading the charge, having already set ambitious targets and made substantial progress in offshore wind development.
But where does India stand in this global race?
📢 According to a recent report, India’s first offshore wind project is finally taking shape off the coast of Gujarat, with ₹6,900 crore sanctioned for transmission infrastructure. This marks a major milestone, with Phase 1 set to evacuate 500 MW of power by 2029.
🎯 With national green energy targets aiming for 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, and Gujarat alone targeting 100 GW, it’s evident that India is not just entering the race—but gearing up to run it hard.
💡 As the world’s most populous country with rapidly increasing energy demands, India cannot afford to stay on the sidelines. Offshore wind offers a dependable and scalable energy source, and this project could be the first of many steps toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
